Irony...

You know that thing - irony? I got a load of it dumped on me today.
Yesterday I posted about the need for parents to watch their kids, what they do,where they go and who they do it with.
I've done that for the last 18 years just watched them; kissed their hurts, kept them close, checked out their friends, checked out their friends' parents. I've even covertly checked out the friends' cars: seatbelts tick, tyres tick. Their food: too much sugar, too many additives. TV programmes: violence, sex, bad language etc etc. You get the picture...the archetypical maman poule
Today my 17 year old who moves as lightly as a gymnast slipped, fell down the stairs in his own home and broke a vertebra.
Ironical, eh.

...and awfully unfortunate, too! Best wishes for quick healing.

I'm so sorry. It's terrible to be a vigilant parent, a "maman poule," and realize you can't stop all bad things from happening to your chicks.... Hope your 17 yr old is all better soon!

Oh dear, I know how just how he feels. Poor guy - not what you want to happen at 17. Ironical indeed. He'll need to rest but you never know - enforced rest, he'll read some amazing book that will change his life and it will all be for the best. I was ever the optimist and it paid off and I'm sure it will for him.

Oh no! I understand about being a maman poule. I try and protect my girls, and then the oldest broke her arm falling off a very stable chair. She healed well as I hope your 17 year old will.

That's the thing with irony; it loves accidents, and they will happen.

I hope he heals well and quickly, but there was nothing you could have done to prevent it.

Darling Angela ... so sorry to hear about your son ... hope he mends well and that your mother's heart heals too. The worst thing in life is when our children are in pain :(
{hugs}

My daughter tore a ligament when she was about 8 sitting in one of our living room armchairs! She had been sitting on her leg and as she turned around in the chair, it ripped the ligament -- two weeks of crutches! So I see what you're getting at...
