One Sunny Saturday

Finding myself unexpectedly alone today with no demands on my time, I decided to set about a few housekeeping tasks and as we've been slowly replacing our kitchen I hit upon reorganising the cupboards. I enjoy these sort of undemanding jobs, not strenuous, not noisy so you can listen to some good music or an audio book and, at the end of the day, you've accomplished something. Very satisfying.
To my great shame, and I'm actually publishing the photo so everyone can see, all these items were so out of date they'd probably be classed as chemical weapons. It's a wonder the black treacle didn't explode given it should have been thrown out in September 2005!

I'm going to try to use up all ingredients in future preferably before the sell by date so if you can figure out what to do with a packet of marzipan, a bag of plain flour, pizza sauce and a jar of cardomon pods I'd like to hear from you before December, please.

All together or individually? Just kidding. I think you should take that packet of marzipan and make cute fall-themed packets of candy to send to people who leave comments on your blog. You know, little pumpkins, acorns and mushrooms...those things are round and so couldn't be too hard to make! I love marzipan but can't eat it at the moment or I'd send you my address right away. I'll think about the others...

A packet of flour should not be too difficult to find a use for, what about some nice Norwegian cinnamon rolls? Yummy! In these you would as well put a little bit of cardamone. Goes super well with a nice afternoon tea!!
Then the marzipan… (I really don’t like it myself but my boyfriend’s crazy about it) I suggest some dried dates of which you’ll take out the nuts only to be replaced with little round balls of marzipan. Might make a nice dessert? I have to admit straight away that I've never tried this recipe so I'll take no responsability it's outcome =)

Thanks for the suggestions.
P-M-F. if you can't manage marzipan now what will you do for Christmas cake? Remember almonds are so good for you, pity about the sugar.

Astrid, I know what you mean about the cinnamon rolls but admit I've only tried the Swedish ones from Ikea. I bet the Norwegian ones are nicer!

I can relate to your findings. In cleaning out the cupboard once, we found an unopened jar of pickles that was supposed to have been used by something like June of 2004. We found this earlier this year. It had been hiding behind another item that we don't use much (but which hadn't expired yet!)

Small fry. I cleaned out my parents' cupboards and found stuff that had been out of date in 1975. Beat that!

Sarah,

That's scary. Had the food become sentient by the time you found it? Or just radioactive?

Actually, Josh, I think Sarah had just rediscovered penicilin.
Whatever...she's certainly won this competition.
Well done, Sarah
